Key Participants

U.S. Universities

Southeast Region:

Clemson University- Albert Abbott is the project director and will be responsible for overall project management and will also serve as the education team leader with support from Robert Ballard, and education specialist. Greg Reighard will serve as extension liaison in the southeast region.

North Carolina State University- Brian Sosinski will coordinate education activities at NC State and provide marker screening services to the subfamily projects.
University of Florida, Gainesville- Kevin Folta will assist with organizing and managing the RosCAP webserver.

Northeast Region:

Cornell University- Herb Aldwinckle and Susan Brown will participate in translational breeding efforts for Maloideae. Susan Brown will also serve on the RosCAP Steering Committee due to her germplasm expertise. Terence Robinson will serve as the northeast extension liaison and help coordinate national extension activities.

University of New Hampshire- Tom Davis will serve as team leader for the Rosoideae team and coordinate local education activities.

Midwest Region:

University of Illinois- Schuyler Korban will be team leader for the Maloideae team and coordinate local education activities.

Michigan State University- Jim Hancock will participate in translational breeding efforts in Rosoideae and serve as the Midwest extension and education coordinator. Amy Iezzoni will serve as the Amygdaloideae team leader.

University of Minnesota- Jim Luby will assist in implementing Maloideae translational breeding efforts into breeding programs.

Northwest Region:

Washington State University- Cameron Peace will serve as project manager for general infrastructure and subfamily research efforts and participate in Maloideae and Amygdaloideae translational breeding research. Dorrie Main will serve as team leader for database and webportal development. Jim Olmstead will serve as RosCAP extension team leader and participate in Amygdaloideae translational breeding efforts.  Amit Dhingra will coordinate local education activities.

Oregon State University- Erica Bakker will participate in Rosoideae translational breeding efforts.

Colorado State University- Chris Richards will participate in Rosoideae translational breeding efforts.

Southwest Region:

University of California, Davis- Abhaya Dandekar and Tom Gradziel will participate in the Amygdaloideae translational breeding program. Dandekar will serve as the southwest education coordinator.

University of California, Kearney Agricultural Center- Ebenezer Ogundiwin will participate and Carlos Crisosto will participate in Amygdaloideae translational breeding. Crisosto will coordinate southwest extension efforts.

 

USDA-ARS locations

The Appalachian Fruit Research Station, Kearneysville, WV- Chris Dardick will manage RosCAP administration and communications. Jay Norelli and Richard Bell will participate in the Maloideae translational breeding program.

USDA-Beltsville, MD- Kim Lewers and Janet Slovin in the Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables Unit will participate in Rosoideae translational breeding programs.

National Clonal Germplasm Repository, Corvallis, OR. Nahla Bassil will serve as team leader for the phenotyping and germplasm infrastructure program along with Gayle Volk and participate in Rosoideae translational breeding efforts.

National Clonal Germplasm Rep - Tree Fruit & Nut Crops & Grapes, Davis, CA- Ed Stover will participate in the Amygdaloideae translational breeding program.

Plant Genetic Resources Unit, Geneva, NY- Gennaro Fazio will participate in Maloideae translational breeding efforts while Angela Baldo will provide bioinformatic support to the subfamily translational breeding programs.

The Tree Fruit Research Laboratory, Wenatchee, WA- Yanmin Zhu will participate in the Maloideae translational breeding program.

Horticultural Crops Research Unit, Corvallis, OR- Chad Finn will participate in the Rosoideae translational breeding program.

Almond Board of California, Modesto- Bob Curtis will serve as industry liaison for Amygdaloideae translational breeding programs.

California Tree Fruit Agreement, Reedley CA- Gary Van Sickle will serve as industry liaison for Amygdaloideae translational breeding programs.

Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission, Wenatchee, WA- Jim McFerson will serve as industry liaison for Maloideae translational breeding programs.

HortResearch, New Zealand- Sue Gardiner, Ken Marsh, Lee Meisel and Robert Schaffer will participate in Maloideae and Rosoideae translational breeding programs, coordinate RosCAP activities with New Zealand programs, and provide genotyping and software support.

Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas, Valencia, Spain- Toni Granell will participate in the Amygdaloideae translational breeding program.

Instituto Agrario San Michele all'Adige, Italy- Riccardo Velasco will coordinate European apple translational breeding efforts with Maloideae translational breeding programs and provide genotyping and software support.

Centre INRA d'Angers, France- Francois Laurens will coordinate phenotyping efforts with European programs.

Institute of Agro-Food Research and Technology (IRTA), Barcelona, Spain- Pere Arus will coordinate Amygdaloideae translational breeding efforts with European programs.

Plant Research International, Wegeningen, UR- Eric van de Weg will lead development of pedigree genotyping infrastructure and software, provide support to the subfamily teams, and integrate genotyping activities with the European HIDRAS efforts.
